Understanding

This week I have enjoyed starting my classes, but have not enjoyed explaining to my professors that I will be absent the 2nd week of classes.  Don’t get me wrong, I am excited to share the great news about tasty beef at the New York State Fair, but explaining what a Beef Ambassador does to a professor that isn’t involved in Agriculture at all isn’t fun.  I had been dreading these conversations, but I was pleasantly surprised.

As I approached my advertising professor, I was all set with a long spiel.  I began by introducing myself and started my story.  To my surprise, the professor was very supportive.  She encouraged me to remain involved in agriculture and said that she would be willing to work with me.  I left that class a very thankful student.

You never know when or where you are going to meet a supporter.  Although this professor wasn’t involved in farming or ranching, she understood the importance of the industry.  She didn’t have to be understanding, but she was, and her attitude made my day.  When approached by a new subject or idea, reach out and try to understand their field, you never know when you’ll make a college student’s day.

’till the cows come home,

Ellie
