Here We Go Again…
Hey folks,
It’s been another week since I last updated you all, but of course the HSUS is STILL up to no good. I just ran across an article that talked about the HSUS is hitting the state of Ohio hard against their Livestock Standards Board. The Ohio state House of Representatives recently voted 98-0 to create the board. These awesome Ohio lawmakers created this board to prevent radical special interest groups from telling Ohio’s farmers how they should run their farm or ranch.
Here’s the good part, the HSUS doesn’t like this new board because it interferes with their agendas of “helping animals.” The board would be headed up by state’s Agricultural Director, would consist of a 13 member panel, and would be funded by the Agriculture Department’s budget. Wayne Pacelle, the top dog at HSUS is fighting this plan as well as another ballot up for vote in the Ohio House. He is promoting a possible bill that would eliminate “extreme confinment” in the state’s chicken, pig, and other animal farms. Also, it would call for more humane euthanisia methods.
For this all to take place, Pacelle is sending around and supports a petition which place this issue on the ballot in November. The HSUS has over 10 million supporters nationally, and just over 400,000 members in the state of Ohio. The petition that Pacelle is supporting for the HSUS will require 402,275 signatures, and with Ohio’s large “animal rights” backing that number won’t be so hard to achieve. Furthermore, the HSUS is using paid “signature gatherers” and volunteers to help with their efforts.
What does this mean to America’s Farmers and Ranchers? Well, if this problem and issue is happening in one state that is aiming to better animal agriculture, where does it stop? HSUS refuses to stop at anything to bring down this industry. We must pull together to prevent them from further embedding into our government influencing our law makers. I, as a 2010 National Beef Ambassador, encourage everyone to further take a look at this issue, leave a comment on this page, or maybe even let others know just what these disturbing organizations are up to.
Until next time, Jackson Alexander
