My Favorite Picture
It’s over, we are through. Winter, in the beginning we were going strong, with soft gentle flakes that became snow days, snowmen, and snowball fights. Now, with the multiple blizzards and icy wind, I am calling it quits. I have a cold, and am longing for the warm sun to shine again. This picture is giving me hope.
I snapped this photo this past summer for my classroom presentation. I am driving through a small pasture our family rents. I’m not an expert photographer, and have certainly seen better pictures in my lifetime, but this is my favorite for more than aesthetic reasons.
The picture is of my cows, and that feeling of ownership and accomplishment can’t be found in endless prom, speech, or silly pictures with friends. Secondly, notice the cornfield in the background. I am more than just a beef gal. Although my personal experiences have been raising cattle, and they will always have a special place in my heart, I believe agriculture MUST work together no matter which product the farmer is raising. Lastly, it shows how beef ranchers have always been using solar, hydro, and water power. The sun and water grows the grass that is used to create the beef Americans love. We just don’t run it through a power line.
So Winter, take notice. This picture is of a summer pasture, and you are no where to be seen. I know you will try to hang on until March, but understand, that I am certain summer will soon be here, my cows will again go to pasture, and I’ll get the chance to snap another photo.
’till the cows come home,
Ellie
